Your car is probably one of your biggest investments. Obviously, you will want to avoid its depreciation.

In fact, maximizing your vehicle’s current performance and life is not a very difficult task. To achieve this, you will just need to follow some manufacturer’s guidelines in terms of regular maintenance activities. Some of them are easy to do on your own, while others require visiting an auto body shop.

Maintenance or service procedures are usually recommended to be performed after every 30,000, 60,000 or 90,000 miles. In order to be sure your car undergoes all necessary procedures as well as to get those operations done professionally, you just need to seek the expert help at our local auto body shop where our highly trained technicians will help you maintain the condition of your car to avoid excessive expenses and unnecessary repairs.

Major procedures

In general, car manufacturers usually recommend to regularly follow these preventative maintenance guidelines:

  • Replace the oil filter approximately every 3,000 to 5,000 miles (see the owner’s manual for more details on the replacement schedule).
  • Check regularly all fluid levels, such as brake, transmission / transaxle, power steering, antifreeze and windshield washer.
  • Check the tire inflation approximately once per month. Too low inflated tires can be a cause of higher fuel consumption.
  • Check your engine to keep it tuned properly. Fouled spark plugs are a common cause of higher (up to 30%) fuel consumption.
  • Frequently lubricate the chassis. This procedure can help you extend the life of moving parts of your car’s suspension system.
  • Check regularly battery posts and cables for corrosion and clean them as and when necessary.
  • Unless your battery is maintenance-free, check the battery fluid levels and fill as and when necessary.
  • Inspect engine belts regularly (see manual for more details).
  • Check the air filter system frequently, at least at every oil check. The condition of your air filter affects the overall vehicle performance very much.
  • Always pay attention to any trouble lights on your dashboard that come on. Have them checked out at a professional auto service shop right away.

Fluid check

Remember that there are several kinds of fluids in your car. Make sure you really know what they serve for and where they are to be checked. Seek a professional advice if you are not familiar with the process. Some of the liquids are consumed and are to be refilled, while others are just to be replaced. Use only products certified for each of the systems.

Wheels

As for the tire pressure, this is a good idea to check it about once a week. The recommended pressure levels can be found on the inside door jamb of the driver's side of the car. Too low inflation not only increases the fuel consumption, but also can lead to poor control on the road and blowouts. Along with pressure, check the condition of the tire tread; the latter should not be excessively worn.

Remember also that brake pads are to be replaced every 20,000 to 60,000 miles (see manufacturer’s recommendations). Usually, when the problem arises, you will hear a grinding sound.

Battery

Usually, a battery can serve up to three years. If you have an older battery, please, visit our repair shop to let our skilled technicians check it professionally. There should be no corrosion signs on the battery cables or posts. If you feel your battery does not work properly, don’t hesitate to replace it. This simple procedure will help you avoid many problems.

Summary

Unfortunately, many car owners neglect the maintenance procedures believing the latter to be only unnecessary expenditures. This is wrong. Simple procedures that require only a little time and efforts, when performed according to the schedule, can save you a lot of time and money. Just drop in to our auto repair shop in Los Angeles and let our skilled technicians take care of your vehicle to avoid any possible problems.
